Is the recession good for the WWW?
Thousands of people are loosing their jobs each day and yet it seems the web is recovering faster than usual. A while ago Woolworth’s closed down and went into administration but soon after it was bought for £1 with 99.7 million in debt and has now been established into an online store. Why?If you were to open a chain of you would have a couple of thousand workers but with the Internet Woolworth’s only needs a warehouse, warehouse workers and people to work on the website. This could mean as little as 50 workers keeping woolies’ alive. Alternately Amazon is similar in concept and it too seems to be doing well. So what I’m fired? Simple. Open an online store! No need to have to pay for the building but only for the web host, stock and possibly a web designer. This also means that you have a lot of extra time and do not have to do the long hours you used to (Obviously if you have a job keep it, how ever you may also like to open your own little Woolies’!) So i think we can conclude that the Internet has helped small stores keep alive and increase the sales of their stock. Go to the Woolies’ Blog
